I first learnt of Dom Perignon because among the $10 wines at Costco, it was one of the most expensive one. Over the weekend, I came across a few articles that reviewed the JUST release of Dom Perignon 2006 Rose. If you come across this find bottle, check out the descriptions below and let me know what you think!
Some fun facts:
- This is the first time in the history of Dom Pérignon Rosé, which started with the 1959 vintage, that five consecutive vintages, i.e. 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 have been released.
- It’s the child of a warmer vintage, closer in style to the ‘05 and the ‘03 than the cooler ‘04, but better than both in some reviewers minds.
- 2006 had been “consistently warm throughout the vegetative period, the only exception to this was a cool and moist August. But the sun came back in September and we had four weeks of beautiful weather.” While this gave an “embracing, creamy, unctuous texture” to Dom Pérignon Blanc, it gives “structure” to the Rosé.
- Two guiding words of 2006 Rose: “Impulsion” and “Magnetism”: the wine is “driving you into a dark and profound direction.”
